Patna Court stays Khan Sir's arrest in firing case: See latest developments and updates in the case
The Patna Civil Court granted interim relief to Khan Sir on Tuesday in a case alleging that he directed security guards to open fire during a violent clash outside his coaching institute earlier this month. The court directed the police not to take any coercive action against him until the next hearing. The court also sought the case diary from the investigating officers for review.
This order was issued during the hearing of the anticipatory bail plea filed by Khan Sir, the Director of Khan Global Studies. A case has been registered against him for alleged attempted murder and violation of the Arms Act.
In its order, the court stated that no harsh action should be taken against the teacher until further instructions are issued.
FIR based on guards' statements
According to the police, the case against Khan Sir was registered based on the statements of the two guards. The FIR alleges that during the incident, Khan Sir instructed them to open fire, saying, "You fire; I will handle the rest."
These allegations have become a crucial part of the ongoing investigation.
Court also hears bail pleas of security guards
The court also heard the regular bail pleas of Khan Sir's two security guards, Deepak Kumar and Talebar Singh. They had been arrested in connection with the same incident and have been in jail since June 4.
Advocate Arvind Maur, representing the guards, presented arguments before Judge Anurag Verma. After hearing both sides, the court sought additional evidence from the police. A decision on their bail pleas is expected soon.
Students protest in support of Roshan Anand
Amidst this controversy, students in Patna held a candlelight march on Monday demanding the release of Roshan Anand, the Director of Gyan Bindu Coaching.
Carrying posters proclaiming his innocence, the students intended to march from the coaching institute to Kargil Chowk. However, the police stopped the procession and did not allow it to proceed further.
The protesters raised slogans in support of Anand and demanded the arrest of Khan Sir. Many students held placards with messages such as "Do not ruin our lives with false cases" and "I am innocent."
Khan Sir defends the guards' actions
Responding to allegations regarding the firing, Khan Sir stated that his security personnel acted in self-defense during the attack on the coaching institute. He noted that one could not expect the police to arrive immediately and argued that the guards were hired precisely to ensure people's safety in such situations. Referring to a video that allegedly shows the guards firing shots, he questioned whether they had actually shot anyone and justified their actions given the circumstances.
Interestingly, on the day of the incident, Khan Sir had praised the police's actions, but later claimed that the officers arrived late at the scene.
'If Khan Global Studies shuts down, fees will rise'
In another recently surfaced video, Khan Sir was seen explaining the incident to students and showing CCTV footage from the day of the attack.
He claimed that the individual seen dragging one of the institute's guards has not yet been arrested and stated that attention is being diverted from the main issue.
During the interaction, Khan Sir also argued that if Khan Global Studies were forced to close, coaching fees across many institutions could skyrocket. According to him, fees that are currently affordable could rise to between ₹1 lakh and Rs 1.5 lakh within six months.
He reiterated that his objective is not to make money but to keep education accessible to students.
Describing the incident, Khan Sir alleged that a group of 20 to 25 people attacked and beat up a guard. Holding a book in the classroom, he swore by the sanctity of education and insisted that a firing incident had indeed taken place on the day of the attack.
