The price of domestic LPG cylinders was hiked by Rs 29 on Saturday night. This hike will impact domestic gas prices across the country.

This marks the second increase in domestic gas prices in three months; previously, the price per cylinder was raised by Rs 60 on March 7.

Following the LPG price hike, the cost of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has risen to Rs 942, effective Sunday, June 7.

Oil companies state that the price hike was necessitated by rising energy costs in the international market and losses incurred on domestic sales.

Petrol, Diesel, and CNG Prices Were Hiked in the Past

Prices of petrol, diesel, and CNG have also increased over the past few weeks. In May, petrol and diesel prices rose by a total of Rs 7.50 per liter, while CNG became costlier by approximately Rs 6 per kilogram. Companies are incurring losses of around Rs 11 per liter on petrol and Rs 33.6 per liter on diesel.

Despite this, companies claim that petrol and diesel are still being sold at prices below cost. The government maintains that the full burden of the global price surge has not been passed on to consumers; state-owned oil companies are absorbing some of the cost resulting from the rise in crude oil prices.

Congress  targets Centre

The opposition Congress party has targeted the Centre over this hike. Congress wrote on X, "The whip of 'Inflation-man Modi' has struck again. Now, the domestic gas cylinder has become costlier by Rs 29. Modi's strategy is clear: fleece the public and fill the coffers of wealthy friends."
