A New Export Horizon Opens: How Kashmir's Premium Cherries and Plums Reached Singapore
Jammu and Kashmir's world-renowned fruits have achieved another international milestone. The first consignment of premium 'Areko' cherries and 'Sentarosa' plums has reached Singapore.
Facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, this shipment marks a significant boost in Kashmir's horticultural exports, following successful supplies of fresh cherries and plums to Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Sourced from orchards in Shopian and Pulwama, this initial consignment was dispatched on July 16 in collaboration with 'Awesome Food Solutions LLP' and 'Fruit Master Agro Fresh Pvt. Ltd.'
To preserve their freshness and quality, the fruits underwent scientific harvesting, sorting, and packaging processes. Furthermore, they were transported via a robust cold chain system while adhering to international food safety and phytosanitary standards.
This initiative is expected to increase farmers' earnings by more than 50% compared to traditional marketing methods. It will also promote export-oriented and scientific farming, improve post-harvest management, and ensure better price realization.
By opening up new global markets, APEDA is strengthening India's horticultural exports and establishing Jammu and Kashmir as a reliable supplier of premium-quality cherries and plums to discerning international consumers.
