Global Telecom Manufacturing Hub and SEZ in Gwalior to Enhance Madhya Pradesh's Profile: What More CM Mohan Yadav Told?
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan has said that the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in New Delhi between the Ministry of Communications, Government of India and the Government of Madhya Pradesh for the establishment of a Global Telecom Manufacturing Hub and Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Gwalior is a historic milestone.
The project is expected to attract Rs 3,500 crore in investment and generate employment opportunities for approximately 14,000 people, further strengthening Madhya Pradesh's position as one of India's fastest-growing industrial and technology destinations.
CM Dr. Yadav was addressing the MoU signing ceremony for the Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi. He said that communication equipment manufactured in Madhya Pradesh would now serve both domestic and global markets. He added that the project would further strengthen the 'Make in India' initiative. Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia and Minister of State for Communications P. S. Chandrasekhar also attended the ceremony.
Congratulating the State Government officials for their efforts, CM said the establishment of the Global Telecom Manufacturing Zone in Gwalior marks the beginning of a new era of industrial and technological development. CM noted that India is setting new benchmarks in digital technology, electronics manufacturing and the defence sector. The establishment of the telecom manufacturing hub in Gwalior will boost exports and provide fresh momentum to the economy.
Union Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia said that India's vision is not merely to be a consumer of telecom equipment, but to design, develop, manufacture and export telecom products to markets across the world. He said the Telecom Manufacturing Zone would realise the vision of "Design in India, Make in India and Export from India," positioning the country as a leading global hub for telecom manufacturing and exports while providing fresh momentum to the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
TMZ will be developed as a state-of-the-art centre for telecom equipment manufacturing
The Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior will be developed as a state-of-the-art centre for telecom equipment manufacturing, testing and research. Spread across approximately 170.5 acres, the plug-and-play industrial ecosystem will provide world-class infrastructure, enabling industries to commence production with minimal lead time.
The project will be implemented through a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), with the Government of Madhya Pradesh holding a 51 per cent equity stake and the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, holding the remaining 49 per cent.
The Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation (MPIDC) will serve as the master developer. The Government of India has approved Rs 493 crore in financial assistance for the project.
One of the key features of the Telecom Manufacturing Zone will be its advanced testing laboratories. The facility will provide advanced testing for 5G core networks, satellite communication systems and optical fibre cables (OFC), SIMs, Passive Optical Network (PON) equipment, routers and other telecom equipment.
A dedicated Cyber Security Laboratory will also be established to conduct security testing of 4G and 5G networks and other telecom equipment, eliminating the need for industries to rely on testing and certification facilities in other states or abroad.
