The student protest that had been ongoing at Delhi's Jantar Mantar for the past 36 days has finally concluded. The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced that an agreement on key demands had been reached following several rounds of talks with the government.
Subsequently, the organization appealed to its supporters and the participating students to return home peacefully. The end of the protest was announced during a joint press conference, where leaders of the organization shared details regarding the discussions held with the government.
Decision to end the protest taken after multiple rounds of talks with the govt
CJP spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka stated that the government has adopted a positive stance regarding the organization's key demands. Based on this, the decision was made to call off the sit-in protest. He urged all students and supporters involved in the demonstration to return to their respective homes peacefully, noting that the agitation has now concluded. The organization described this as a significant step towards finding a resolution through dialogue.
Leaders outline key points of the agreement during the joint press conference
At the joint press conference, CJP spokesperson Sourav Das revealed that a consensus had been reached on several issues during discussions with the government. He mentioned that a written assurance is expected by Tuesday. Additionally, an agreement was reached on a proposal regarding Rs 1 crore in compensation. The government and the organization also agreed to collaborate in the future on bringing about comprehensive reforms to the examination system.
Govt provides crucial assurances regarding student safety and future
The organization stated that a detailed memorandum of demands had been submitted to the government. According to CJP leaders, their objective from the very beginning of the protest was to resolve issues concerning student interests. They maintained that there is no longer a need to continue the agitation following the government's positive response to their primary demands.
JP Nadda Assures No Action Against Students
CJP leaders stated that several key points were discussed in detail during the third round of meetings with Union Minister JP Nadda. A written draft was also shared during the meeting. According to the organization, the government has assured that no new action will be taken against the students involved in the protest. If an FIR has already been registered against any student, the process to withdraw it will be initiated. Furthermore, an assurance has been given that no legal action regarding this matter will be pursued in the future.
