Narsinghpur: What began as a bold career decision has now become an inspiring success story. Kuldeep Kaurav, a resident of Puariya Gram Panchayat in Chichli block of Narsinghpur, gave up his engineering studies to pursue his passion for farming. Together with his wife, Shivani Kaurav, he transformed the family's traditional occupation into a successful and sustainable business.

Couple adopted natural methods

Instead of relying on chemical-based farming, the couple adopted natural methods. They set up a vermicompost unit using cow dung and crop residues, which reduced farming costs and improved soil health. They also established an Azolla unit to produce affordable, nutrient-rich fodder for their livestock, thereby cutting feed expenses and boosting milk production.

Planted hundreds of fruit trees

Venturing beyond seasonal crops, the couple planted hundreds of fruit trees—such as mango, lemon, amla, and guava—and developed a nursery that supplies high-quality saplings to farmers across the region.

Kuldeep now trains farmers

Their efforts have established them not only as successful farmers but also as mentors. Kuldeep now trains farmers in natural farming techniques and the preparation of vermicompost and Jeevamrut (a bio-fertilizer) through the Agriculture Department's Bio-Resource Center.

Shivani acts as a 'Krishi Sakhi'

Meanwhile, Shivani, acting as a 'Krishi Sakhi' (Farm Friend), encourages rural women to adopt sustainable farming practices and improve their livelihoods.

Today, the family's integrated farming model generates an annual net income of approximately Rs 4 lakh. Their farm has become a learning hub for farmers and self-help groups, proving that innovation, hard work, and a deep connection to the land can pave the way for a prosperous future in agriculture.
