MP: How Dragon Fruit Cultivation Has Opened New Horizons for Farmer in Sagar
Sagar: While most farmers in the region rely on traditional crops, Virendra Raghuvanshi from Mandi Bamora village in Bina block in Sagar chose a different path—and is now reaping the rewards. By cultivating dragon fruit on approximately 1.5 acres of land, he has demonstrated how adopting modern agricultural methods can transform farming into a more profitable and sustainable profession.
This initiative was launched under the supervision of the Agriculture Department, with Senior Agriculture Development Officer Avadhesh Rai providing technical support at every stage. From land preparation and the installation of drip irrigation systems to nutrient management and plant care, the orchard has been developed using scientific techniques.

Dragon fruit has emerged as a high-value crop with steadily rising demand in both Indian and international markets. Agricultural experts state that this crop can yield between 8 and 12 tonnes per acre; once established, it continues to bear fruit for several years, providing farmers with a reliable source of income.
Avadhesh Rai said that the department is encouraging farmers to diversify their agriculture by adopting high-value crops, medicinal plants, and modern farming techniques through regular training and technical guidance.
