World-Class Training for Madhya Pradesh PWD Engineers at IIT Bombay: prioritizing quality, technical proficiency, and capacity building
Under the guidance of Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh—and prioritizing quality, technical proficiency, and capacity building in construction works—a five-day residential training program was organized for 60 engineers from the Madhya Pradesh Public Works Department (PWD) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay from July 20 to July 24, 2026.
The training program was conducted under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Madhya Pradesh PWD and IIT Bombay. Its objective was to equip departmental engineers with world-class technical knowledge, the latest construction techniques, and practical experience, thereby ensuring long-term improvements in the quality, durability, and execution efficiency of road and bridge projects across the state.
During the training, experts provided detailed instruction on field execution, quality control, operation of construction plants, assessment of road and pavement damage, Reinforced Earth (RE) walls, drainage systems, causes of pavement failure, and corresponding scientific solutions and remedial measures. Participants also toured IIT Bombay’s state-of-the-art laboratories, gaining exposure to various testing procedures and modern technologies.
The participating engineers described the training as highly useful and practical, noting that it provided them with a scientific approach and a better understanding of modern methodologies to resolve technical challenges encountered during construction. This knowledge will prove beneficial in the implementation of the state's infrastructure projects.
In accordance with the directives of Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh, the department is placing special emphasis on capacity building, continuous training, quality control, and the adoption of modern technologies for its engineers. By collaborating with prestigious national-level institutions, the department is regularly providing advanced technical training to its officials and engineers.
This initiative will prove significant in ensuring the construction of high-quality, safe, durable, and timely infrastructure across the state. Experts from IIT Bombay commended the initiative undertaken by the Madhya Pradesh government and the Public Works Department to upgrade the skills of engineers, noting that such training programs would provide field engineers with scientific solutions to practical problems while also promoting the effective use of modern engineering techniques. The institute expressed its commitment to continuing this collaboration with the Madhya Pradesh Public Works Department in the future.
