Tamia Sawan Festival: Thousands enjoy swings in Chhindwara; former Governor Anusuiya Uikey attends celebrations
Chhindwara: On the second day of the Tamia Sawan Festival, thousands of tourists from Chhindwara district, as well as from other parts of state and Maharashtra, participated in the event amidst pleasant weather. The traditional Sawan swings were the biggest attraction for the tourists.
Former Governor. Anusuiya Uikey attended the festival—organized through the joint efforts of the MP Tourism Board and the district administration. She praised the event and remarked that 'homestays' are becoming a hallmark of Chhindwara. She highly appreciated the initiative to link rural and tribal families with self-employment opportunities and commended the stalls set up by them.
Uikey urged the younger generation to connect with tribal culture; she herself took to the stage and danced energetically alongside the troupe. For the performance, she wore traditional tribal jewelry and highlighted its unique significance.

A dance troupe from Chimtipur captivated the audience with their performance. Officials and staff present at the event included Junnardeo SDM Rajnandini Thakur, prominent citizen Virendra Rai, DATCC Nodal Officer Balram Rajput, Tourism Manager Girish Lalwani, and Tamia Tehsildar Sanjay Mashram.

Singh, Director of the MP Tourism Board, briefed the guests on the Sawan Festival and the initiatives being undertaken by the Board to develop tourism in Chhindwara. R.D. Siddiqui, the Homestay Project In-charge, shared details regarding the domestic and international tourists who have visited the homestays and the income generated for rural households.
