Bhopal, the capital of Madhya Pradesh, is once again set to become a hub for major national water sports events. The Department of Sports and Youth Welfare is organizing the third edition of the ‘Raja Bhoj Multiclass National Sailing Championship (Ranking) 2026’ from August 11 to 16, 2026, at the Water Sports Center of the Boat Club at Upper Lake. In this six-day national-level competition, talented sailors from across the country will demonstrate their speed, balance, and technical skills.


Around 100 Athletes from 12 States to Participate


Approximately 100 national and international-level athletes from 12 states and various prestigious clubs across the country are participating in this prestigious national ranking competition. The event offers an opportunity for both experienced athletes and emerging talents to showcase their capabilities at the national level. Exciting contests among the athletes are expected amidst the favorable conditions of Upper Lake.


Event to be Held Under YAI’s Technical Guidance


To ensure the competition is conducted in accordance with national and international standards, technical guidance is being provided by the Yachting Association of India (YAI). Twelve jury members and officials from YAI have arrived in Bhopal for the event. YAI will play a pivotal role in the conduct of the competition, technical arrangements, and the judging process. Additionally, senior officials from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) will also be associated with the event.


Coordination by Madhya Pradesh Yachting Association


The Madhya Pradesh Yachting Association will provide special coordination for the conduct of this national competition organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare. Through this event, alongside promoting sailing and other water sports in the state, local talents will get the opportunity to compete against national-level athletes. 


Bhopal Emerging as a Hub for Water Sports


By consistently hosting national and international-level competitions at the Upper Lake, Bhopal has carved a distinct identity for itself as a premier water sports center in the country. At the Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Academy, athletes are being groomed for national and international competitions through modern facilities and expert training.


Champions in the Making Under the Supervision of Foreign Experts


To prepare athletes from the Madhya Pradesh Water Sports Academy for international-level competitions, the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare has engaged the services of world-class foreign coaches. Under the guidance of these expert coaches, athletes are continuously working on their technique, fitness, strategy, and ability to handle competitive pressure.


National Competition to Provide Exposure to State Talent


Events like the ‘Raja Bhoj Multiclass National Sailing Championship’ will offer young athletes from Madhya Pradesh the opportunity to compete against the country's top sailors and hone their skills. The objective of the Department of Sports and Youth Welfare is to promote water sports on a large scale within the state and provide athletes with a superior platform and training to excel at national and international levels.
