India’s cleanest city Indore has launched a unique campaign where free plants are offered as rewards for responsible waste disposal.

Indore has established itself as India’s cleanest city, and it is now taking another innovative step to further strengthen this legacy. The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) is launching a special campaign designed to encourage citizens to dispose of plastic waste responsibly while also promoting greenery in their homes.

This 10-day campaign will run from August 20 to August 30. During this period, citizens can bring discarded or unused plastic items from their homes to any of the city's 15 '3R' (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centers. In exchange, they will receive free saplings, including Tulsi (Holy Basil) and other varieties suitable for home gardens.

Turning Waste Management into a Community Movement

This campaign goes far beyond mere plastic collection. Its goal is to inspire people to view waste as a resource that can be recycled rather than simply dumped in landfills. The Municipal Corporation has partnered with NGOs to manage the collection process and ensure that plastic disposal and recycling are carried out in an environmentally responsible manner.

To raise awareness, outreach programs will be organized across various wards on August 23, encouraging maximum resident participation. The campaign will conclude on August 30 with a marathon, symbolizing Indore’s enduring commitment to cleanliness and sustainability.

According to Prakhar Singh, the Additional Commissioner in charge of the Corporation's Health Department, this initiative is designed to give a new direction to the city's cleanliness drive. By rewarding citizens with saplings in exchange for plastic waste, the corporation hopes to make recycling a habit and encourage every household to contribute to a clean and green Indore.
