Ujjain: Mrignayani Becomes India's First Government-Owned ODOP Digital Platform; CM Mohan Yadav Inaugurates Handloom Centre of Excellence
Ujjain: Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the inauguration of the Handloom Center of Excellence marks a significant step towards promoting the handloom sector, preserving traditional crafts and creating employment opportunities for local women and weavers. The CM was speaking at the inauguration of the Handloom Center of Excellence in Ujjain on the occasion of National Handloom Day.
The Handloom Center of Excellence will provide women with a six-month basic handloom training programme, equipping them with skills in handloom operations, weaving and textile production.
CM recalled the city's glorious textile heritage. He said Ujjain was once home to several thriving textile mills that operated round the clock in three shifts. He expressed confidence that cotton and other textile production would once again flourish in the city.
Center will enable women to become self-reliant
CM Dr. Yadav said that the Center will provide training to women, enabling them to become self-reliant by operating spinning wheels from their homes. He said the initiative is expected to provide women with a monthly income of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. He added that the expansion of handloom operations would create more employment opportunities and that plans would also be prepared to promote silk production alongside cotton.
Mrignayani achieves a historic milestone
The Chief Minister said that Mrignayani, operating under the Department of Cottage and Rural Industries, Government of Madhya Pradesh, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the country's first public sector undertaking (PSU)-owned digital platform dedicated to the One District One Product (ODOP) initiative.
CM said the platform will not only provide digital visibility to Madhya Pradesh's local products but also open new national and international market opportunities for the State's artisans, weavers, craftsmen and entrepreneurs.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav inaugurated the Handloom Center of Excellence, established under the Skill and Technical Development Scheme, by lighting the ceremonial lamp and cutting the ribbon at Baba Saheb Natu Community Hall near Prashanti Dham on Indore Road in Ujjain.
CM interacts with women at the Center
The CM interacted with women at the Center to understand various aspects of the handloom industry and also operated a spinning wheel at the training facility. He directed that regular training programs be conducted on the first floor of the Center so that more people could benefit from employment opportunities. The Chief Minister also suggested establishing a showroom on the ground floor for the sale of products manufactured at the Center and conveyed his best wishes to all associated with the initiative.
Member of Parliament Anil Firojiya, referring to the global recognition of Chanderi and Maheshwari sarees and Bhairavgarh Batik prints, said Ujjain sarees would also earn a distinguished place in domestic and international markets. He added that the initiative would contribute to increasing the number of Ladli Lakhpati Behnas by strengthening women's economic empowerment.
Additional Chief Secretary, Cottage and Rural Industries, K.C. Gupta, in his welcome address, described the day as historic for the department. He said the Center has been established in accordance with the Chief Minister's vision to promote Khadi and Village Industries and provide handloom training. He informed that the initiative would be expanded across Madhya Pradesh to create employment opportunities for a larger number of people through skill development.
