Uttar Pradesh has secured eight key positions in the BJP's new national team, but two Muslim leaders—Dr. Tariq Mansoor and Kunwar Basit Ali—have particularly drawn attention. Mansoor has been retained as a National Vice President, while Basit Ali has been appointed head of the party's National Minority Morcha. These appointments come as the BJP gears up for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, making their timing politically significant.
From Representation to Political Strategy
These appointments appear to be part of a broader effort to engage various sections of the Muslim community, particularly the Pasmanda communities. Mansoor, a surgeon and former Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University, is perceived as an intellectual figure associated with an institution, whereas Basit Ali possesses extensive organizational experience in Western Uttar Pradesh. Their distinct backgrounds could offer the BJP two different avenues for outreach.
