Asian Games 2026: India Win 2 Gold Medals; First Athletics Gold Secured in Women's 4x400m Relay
Nagoya: On Tuesday, the Indian quartet of Kiran Pahal, Poovamma Machettira, Prachi, and Vithya Ramraj delivered a stellar performance to win the gold medal in the women's 4x400m relay at the 2026 Asian Games here.
The Indian team clinched the top prize with a time of 3:29.69 minutes, marking the country's first gold medal in track and field events at these Games. Bahrain and China finished second and third, respectively.
Earlier, Gurindervir Singh, Animesh Kujur, Sneha Satyanarayan, and Harita Bhadra won the bronze medal in the 4x100m mixed relay final, clocking a season-best time of 41.06 seconds.
Continuing his impressive run at the Games, Gulveer Singh won the bronze medal in the men's 5000m race with a time of 13:32.75, completing a hat-trick of podium finishes in this Japanese city.
This marks Gulveer's third podium finish at the 2026 Games; he had previously won silver medals in the men's 1500m and 10000m events at this multi-sport competition.
First Women's Trap Gold
Neeru Dhanda made history on Tuesday. She became the first Indian shooter to win a gold medal in the women's individual trap event at the Asian Games, simultaneously breaking the continental record. Earlier, she had helped India secure a silver medal in the women's team trap event. The 26-year-old athlete from Haryana—who had previously made history in July by becoming the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in the trap event at the Shotgun World Cup in Italy—clinched the gold medal here with a score of 28, surpassing the previous Asian record of 24.
Murali's second medal in men's long jump
Murali Sreeshankar won his second consecutive silver medal in the men's long jump event at the Asian Games on Monday (September 28). Despite sustaining an injury during the final, he delivered an impressive performance to secure a spot on the podium.
