Gwalior Set to Become a New Hub for Telecom Manufacturing; CM Mohan Yadav, Union Minister Scindia Engage with Investors on Gwalior TMZ
Madhya Pradesh is establishing itself as a major center for technology and manufacturing investments, with Gwalior at the heart of new efforts to boost telecom manufacturing.
Speaking to investors in Bengaluru, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav highlighted that the state's central location, robust infrastructure, abundant power supply, and investor-friendly policies make it an ideal destination for attracting new industries. He said that investments exceeding ₹15 lakh crore have been secured across various sectors in less than three years.
The meeting in Bengaluru focused primarily on the upcoming Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior—a joint initiative of the central and state governments. Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stated that the zone is designed to bring the entire telecom ecosystem together, encompassing everything from product design and components to manufacturing, testing, certification, and exports.
The zone will cover sectors such as optical fiber, 5G and 6G equipment, satellite communication, IoT, data centers, semiconductor components, and electronics manufacturing.
A significant incentive package is also available for investors in this project. Companies operating in this 170-acre park will receive land at a token premium of ₹1, a lease rent of ₹1 per square meter for 30 years, and a 100% exemption on stamp duty.
Other incentives include a 50% capital subsidy on plant and machinery, electricity assistance, employee support, and skill-training grants. A common testing and certification lab for 5G, IoT, and satellite equipment is also being established at a cost of approximately ₹500 crore.
Investor interest is already on the rise. Following roadshows in Delhi and Mumbai, 24 companies have initiated the application process, representing a proposed investment of approximately ₹5,500 crore and the potential to create over 17,000 jobs.
Gwalior’s connectivity is another advantage. The city offers direct flights to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, while major road and rail infrastructure projects are strengthening its links to other markets. The city also boasts a growing pool of engineering talent drawn from 40–50 local colleges.
This initiative reflects a concerted effort to significantly boost manufacturing in Madhya Pradesh. In the last nine months alone, around 15 manufacturing units have been established across sectors such as defense, healthcare, textiles, automobiles, renewable energy, railways, and telecommunications.
Driven by collaboration between the central and state governments, industry-focused policies, and rising investor interest, the Gwalior Telecom Manufacturing Zone aims to create new opportunities for businesses, skilled workers, and the broader regional economy.
