Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the tribal regions of Madhya Pradesh are proving that talent is not confined to cities. Shahdol, known as the ‘Mini Brazil’, is now hosting a major basketball championship. He described Shahdol as an emerging star in the world of sports.
CM said that Vicharpur village in Shahdol has established itself nationally and internationally as a football nursery and ‘Mini Brazil’. Along with football, cricket, athletics, kabaddi and volleyball, basketball is also becoming increasingly popular among the district's youth.
CM said the journey of players from tribal areas such as Vicharpur, who train and reach the national level, shows that talent exists in villages and smaller regions as well. Shahdol has recorded strong participation in state-level competitions such as Khelo MP and Youth Games. The district has produced several talented players who have established their identity at the national level and continue to inspire the next generation of athletes.
Chief Minister Dr. Yadav addressed the inaugural ceremony of the 70th School State-Level Basketball Championship in Shahdol via video conference from Samatva Bhawan at his residence in Bhopal on Wednesday.
CM Dr. Mohan Yadav said that the Shahdol division has a long and proud association with basketball. Several players from the region have performed exceptionally well in national competitions and brought laurels to the state. Although resources were limited, their enthusiasm for basketball never waned. This passion has led to the development of three basketball courts in Shahdol. He noted that the Shahdol basketball team has performed exceptionally well at the state level over the past 15 years. Players from the district have also won medals at national school basketball championships, demonstrating their talent.
Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav said that school sports competitions are an effective means of fostering healthy competition, discipline and team spirit among students from an early age. Sports are not merely about demonstrating physical ability but also play an important role in developing children's personality, confidence and decision-making skills. He said that when a young athlete works hard on the field, the achievement eventually brings pride not only to the player but also to the district, state and country.
The Chief Minister extended his best wishes to all the basketball players from across Madhya Pradesh participating in the championship. A total of 240 players, up to 17 years of age, from all 10 divisions of Madhya Pradesh are participating in the competition.
