Long-distance buses to Gujarat and Rajasthan will shift to new terminal

Indore: The administration has decided to begin a month-long trial run of long-distance buses from the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Kumedi, near MR-10, from October 28. The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Collector Shivam Verma at the Smart City office.

Initially, buses operating on routes to Gujarat and Rajasthan will be included in the trial. The administration plans to shift around 300 buses travelling to these states from different parts of the city to the new terminal. The trial will help assess operational arrangements before regular services begin.

The Indore Development Authority (IDA) has awarded the terminal's operation contract to Pune-based BVG. The company has taken possession of the facility and advertised shops, restaurants and offices for rent.

Last-Mile Connectivity Raises Questions

However, passenger access remains a major concern. Residents of Rajendra Nagar, Sudama Nagar, Nayta Mundla and several bypass colonies have limited public transport options to reach the terminal. There is also no feeder service connecting Sarwate and Gangwal bus stands with Kumedi, potentially forcing passengers to spend an additional Rs 300–400 on private transport.

Moreover, the proposed MR-4 road connecting Sarwate to Kumedi remains incomplete, with around 800 houses reportedly obstructing its alignment. The administration will need to address these connectivity gaps to make the trial run successful.
