Karwa Chauth-2026: In the 'City of Lakes,' Bhopal, the atmosphere is awash in shades of red and gold as preparations for Karwa Chauth get underway. A day before the festival, local markets saw a massive influx of shoppers, filling the streets with vibrant energy and a festive spirit.

Temporary stalls have been set up in major commercial hubs. Married women are flocking to the markets to purchase traditional brass and earthen karwas (vessels), decorated sieves, puja (worship) thalis, earthen lamps, and cosmetics.

A heartening sight—one of social harmony—has emerged amidst this year’s preparations: Muslim artisans were seen applying mehndi (henna) to the hands of Hindu women, a testament to the deep cultural unity and camaraderie present in the capital.

Pre-festival preparations amplify the excitement

Events leading up to the festival have further heightened the excitement. Organizations like the 'Disha Group' hosted cultural programs across the city. Mayor Malti Rai, joined by many other women from the community, participated in these festivities, enjoying traditional music and dance.

According to astronomical calculations, the moon is expected to rise in Bhopal at approximately 8:26 PM. Across the state, the moon will appear first in Singrauli, while it will be visible last in Alirajpur, at 8:41 PM. However, women may need to keep a close watch on the sky, as the Meteorological Department has issued a rain alert for parts of Madhya Pradesh on the day of Karwa Chauth.
