MP: Indore prepares water conservation plan amidst 45% rainfall deficit: what measures are proposed?
Indore: The city has received 45% less rainfall this year; consequently, the Indore Municipal Corporation is taking measures to tackle a potential water crisis. To ensure water availability for residents, the municipal administration is considering sourcing additional supplies through Narmada link projects and utilizing functional private borewells.
The city has recorded only 23 inches of rainfall, significantly lower than the normal 35 inches. Several water bodies, including Yashwant Sagar and Bilavali Lake, are nearly empty, raising concerns about water availability post-Diwali.
The municipal administration is considering filling Yashwant Sagar via the Narmada-Gambhir link project and supplying water to eastern areas through the Narmada-Kshipra link project. Plans are also in place to fill overhead tanks to full capacity via the Narmada supply network and to closely monitor distribution.
Owners of private borewells may be asked to install external taps to provide water to nearby residents.
Ban on Vehicle Washing
The corporation is also considering a ban on washing cars, motorcycles, and other vehicles, with provisions for fines against violators. Awareness posters regarding water conservation will be displayed at Navratri Garba venues.
Officials are reviewing supply arrangements and potential restrictions to minimize water wastage and address the anticipated shortage.
