Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai on October 11 to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹13,000 crore. His itinerary will focus on metro rail, highways, railway infrastructure, ports, energy, and scientific research.


Around 11:30 AM, the Prime Minister will travel on the Chennai Metro from Porur Bypass Station to Poonamallee Bypass Station and back. Following this, he will offer prayers at the Jalakandeswarar Temple and visit the Brain Centre at IIT Madras.


Focus on Metro, Highways, and Railways


Around 1:30 PM, Modi will inaugurate the Poonamallee-Vadapalani stretch of the Chennai Metro Phase II project, constructed at a cost of approximately ₹4,900 crore. This corridor features a 3.7-kilometer double-decker structure and an advanced signaling system to support driverless operations.


He will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for National Highway projects worth approximately ₹3,700 crore. These include road improvements near Madurai, the Vadugapatti-Therkuvenganallur section of NH-744, and the Tiruvarur bypass project.


Railway projects worth over ₹750 crore will also be dedicated to the nation. These include the Karaikal-Peralam railway line, three rail flyovers, and five redeveloped Amrit Stations.


Boosting Ports, Energy, and Research


At Chennai Port, PM Modi will inaugurate facilities such as a storage yard, an export-import warehouse, and an upgraded cruise terminal. Projects at V.O. Chidambaranar and Kamarajar ports will strengthen cargo handling and maritime infrastructure. 


He will also lay the foundation stone for a ₹1,620 crore Lube Oil Base Stock project at Chennai Petroleum Corporation Limited's Manali Refinery. 


At IIT Madras, PM Modi will inaugurate the 'Sudha Gopalakrishnan Brain Centre' and launch a scientific mission to create detailed three-dimensional maps of over 100 human brains. He will also release a 'Brain Atlas' focused on ischemic stroke.


Around 3 PM, Modi will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya Matriculation Higher Secondary School and address the gathering.
