Swiss President to visit India, will hold bilateral discussions with PM Modi

At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of the Swiss Confederation, H.E. Guy Parmelin will pay a State visit to India from 05-07 October 2026. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation comprising senior officials and business leaders. 


This will be President Parmelin’s first State visit to India and second visit during this year. He earlier visited India to participate in the AI Impact Summit in New Delhi in February 2026.


The last State visit of the President of India to Switzerland was in 2019. Prime Minister Modi paid an official visit to Switzerland in 2016 and again visited in 2018.


On 05 October, Prime Minister Modi and President Parmelin will hold bilateral discussions to review progress in bilateral cooperation across a wide range of areas including trade and investment, science, technology and innovation, mobility, culture and people-to-people contact. They will also exchange views on regional and global developments including cooperation in multilateral fora.


4. President Parmelin will meet Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji Smt. Droupadi Murmu, who will also host an official banquet in his honour. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will call on President Parmelin.


5.​ This visit of President Parmelin assumes added significance in view of his participation in the 2nd India–EFTA Prosperity Summit on 07 October 2026 to mark the first anniversary of the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) coming into force. Among EFTA countries, Switzerland is the largest trade and investment partner of India.


6.​ India and Switzerland share longstanding friendly relations. This visit will further strengthen bilateral relations, building upon the regular high-level exchanges and deepen cooperation in new areas of mutual interest.
