2,027 Diyas Transform Bhopal's Gauhar Mahal into a Golden Spectacle
Bhopal: On Tuesday evening, Bhopal's historic Gauhar Mahal became the setting for a unique confluence of history and celebration. Here, 2,027 earthen lamps (diyas) transformed the palace’s grand 'Diwan-e-Khas' into a sea of golden light. Lit simultaneously at precisely 6:15 PM, these lamps created a mesmerizing sight—a tribute to India’s cultural traditions that served as a farewell to the year 2026 and a welcome to 2027.
The flickering flames of the diyas cast a radiant glow upon the palace’s ancient walls, elegant arches, and traditional architecture. Against this historic backdrop, the shimmering light of thousands of diyas conjured a magical atmosphere, reminding visitors that a simple earthen lamp is more than just a source of light; it is a symbol of hope, wisdom, positivity, and new beginnings.
Organized by the Madhya Pradesh Handicrafts and Handloom Development Corporation as part of its 'Deepotsav' fair, the event also showcased diyas specially decorated with themes reflecting the culture of Madhya Pradesh. These traditional earthen lamps highlighted the skill of local artisans and the creativity of craftspeople.
A Celebration of Heritage and Hope
The lighting of 2,027 diyas was more than just a celebration; it served as a symbolic expression of collective hopes and good wishes for the year ahead. Through this event, the importance of preserving traditional handicrafts, pottery, and local art forms was also underscored.
Present on this occasion were Deputy Director (Handlooms) Umesh Srivastava, Ramesh Shakya, Milind Mendhi, Ranjana Ninave, Alok Bhavsar, Surendra Verma, and Ramakant Agrawal. Rangoli artist Suman Kol also contributed to the festivities.
As these diyas (earthen lamps) illuminated the historic palace, Gauhar Mahal conveyed a memorable message: while years may pass, the light of India’s cultural heritage continues to shine brightly.
