18 People Are Feared Dead In Cracker Factory In Batala, Punjab

At least 18 people are feared killed in a massive blast in the cracker factory in Batala in Gurdaspur District of  Punjab on wednesday.  Many still feared trapped inside the debris of the factory and rescue operations are still under way.

The incident took place at 4 PM in the factory located in the residential area.  Over a dozen fire tenders from Gurdaspur and Amritsar have rushed in to douse the flames.  According to sources fire crackers were being manufactured in the factory for the marriage ceremony to be held on September 05.

Senior district Officials have rushed to the spot to monitor the situation.  Punjab CM Amrinder Singh has expressed shock over the loss of life in the incident. Gurdaspur MP Sunny Deol has also expressed his gratitude to the people who have lost their lives in the incident.
