Nation Wide Bandh Today

Due to one day strike against the functioning of the Central Government, the life has stopped in many states of the country.  

In support of the nationwide strike, labor organizations, leftist parties and the Congress have come out on the streets.  The strike organizations have claimed that about 25 crore people are involved in Bharat Bandh.

The impact of the strike in West Bengal was maximum.  In the Parganas of Bengal, people blocked railway tracks, many trains were stopped.  In North Bengal, the Trinamool Congress took out rallies and protested.  It is being told that so far 42 trains have been canceled in Bengal.  The functioning of government offices is also completely closed.  Information has also been received that in Cooch Behar, Bengal, protesters vandalized a government bus.  A heavy police force has been deployed in the protest areas.  

In Maharashtra too, the effect of the strike was quite strong. In Mumbai, employees of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited went on strike and protested against the government.

Media and Entertainment sector lower downs 24% in 2020 despite last-quarter rebound

  India's media and entertainment (M&E) sector lower downed 24% to Rs1.38 trillion in 2020 due to the corona-virus pandemic. The contractions came despite a rebound in the last-quarter. The M&E sector is supposed to expand 25% to Rs1.73 trillion in 2021 and compound annual growth rate of 13.7% to Rs2.23 trillion by 2023, according to a joint report by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry(Ficci) and EY, finance consulting firm.  While advertisement revenues dropped 25% to 19,900 crore and subscriptions fell 20% to 15,400 crores. Digital advertisement remained unchanged, but print (Rs 8,400 crore) and television (Rs 6,900 crore) advertising saw the steepest declines. The only segments that rose in 2020 were digital and online gaming, which added a total of Rs 2,600 crore and their contribution to the M&E sector rose from 16% in 2019 to 23% in 2020.
