Nirbhaya's Convicts Death Penalty Stayed

The four convicts of Delhi's Nirbhaya will not be hanged tomorrow on February 1.  Delhi's Patiala House Court has postponed the hanging of the convicts.  This is the second time the court has postponed the hanging of Nirbhaya convicts.  The court has stayed the execution of the culprits till further orders.

The convicts were to be hanged on February 1 and earlier the hanging of the convicts was fixed on January 22, but the hanging of the culprits has now been postponed till the next order.

In fact, Nirbhaya convicts resorted to legal options pending the execution of the sentence.  Convicted of Nirbhaya, Vinay had demanded a ban on the hanging and pleaded for the hanging to be suspended on the basis of pending mercy petition before the President.

During the hearing in the Supreme Court today, lawyer Vrinda Grover had said in the court that the culprits in a case cannot be hanged separately.  According to the rule, until all the petitions are disposed of, no convict can be hanged.  At the same time, the Supreme Court has dismissed the reconsideration petition of the other convict Pawan being minor.
