No stay on CAA,Top Court refuses, grants 4 weeks to govt to respond

Supreme Court on Wednesday made it very clear that it wont grant any interim stay on CAA, without hearing the centre on the matter and the government is free to implement those laws.

The bench headed by CJI SA Bobde also gave 4 weeks time to the government to reply on the petitions . The Supreme Court also restrained all the High Courts from entertaining petitions on CAA, before it gets to any final decision on those pleas.

Talking about pleas linked to Assam and Tripura, SC said that those pleas will be taken separately, as the problem in both the states related to CAA, is different from other states in the country.

The centre will now have to reply on all the CAA related petitions, except those related to Assam and Tripura within 4 weeks.Bench headed by CJI SA Bobde is hearing 143 pleas, mostly challenging the validity of CAA, including those filed by the Indian Union Muslim League and Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.
