Governor Arif Mohammad Khan read out the state government's proposal against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). However, the governor previously refused to read and was not in a favor of the proposal, but read it on the request of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Before reading the proposal, the Governor repeatedly expressed his disagreement.
Governor cleared,' I am reading this, because CM wants me to read it, although I believe that it not right and does not fall under the policy or program. But just to honor CM's wish, I am reading this paragraph.
The budget session of Kerala Legislative Assembly has started from today. As soon as the Governor Arif Mohammad Khan reached the House, the UDF MLA started protesting. They shouted slogans against CAA and NRC and also showed go-back posters to the Governor.
They also tried to block Governor's way, while he was going towards the stage. After that with the help of Marshal he reached to his seat. There was many speculations earlier, that whether Governor will read out the CAA part or will leave that particular part in his speech.
A long dispute is going between the Governor and CM related to CAA. The Kerala government even approached Supreme Court for the same. While approaching Supreme Court, the government did not inform the governor about their move and governor also raised objections over it. He added that the government should not work according to the will of a person or a political party, everyone should follow the rules.
Arif Mohammad Khan has opposed the proposal passed by the Kerala government to remove the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He said that no state has the constitutional right to pass resolutions on the subjects of the Center.
