Tapovan Tunnel Clearing Being Done By Rescue Operations

ITBP rescued 12 people from a tunnel yesterday, these 30 are trapped in a different tunnel. Rescue operation is underway in different areas. 

More teams will be sent there if it is required, we are focussing on rescuing people from the tunnel first as per Vivek Pandey, ITBP Spokesperson

Were inside the tunnel when someone shouted 'move out'. Before we could leave, water entered tunnel at high speed and we got stuck. 

Held tunnel crown until water level subsided. Had lost hope but ITBP saved us as per one of the people rescued from Tapovan tunnel yesterday in Uttarakhand.

Uttarakhand CM being briefed by MS Rawat, ADG Western Command ITBP, on the rescue operations being carried out at Tapovan tunnel, Joshimath.

A joint team of NDRF, SDRF and Army is conducting a rescue operation. The team has reached the 130-metre mark in Tapovan tunnel, it may take 2-3 hrs to reach the t-point. 

Efforts underway to safely rescue those who are stuck in the tunnel as per Uttarakhand CM TS Rawat, Joshimath.

Machines are now clearing the heavy slush inside the tunnel in Chamoli.

Rescue party was not able to move beyond 100 meters inside the tunnel due to the slush.
