Haryana government put restrictions on Holi celebration due to Covid-19

Due to an increase in coronavirus cases across the country, many states and cities have banned either public or private Holi celebrations to prevent the virus from spreading.

Haryana is the most recent state to prohibit Holi celebrations outside homes. "Due to the COVID-19 situation, public Holi celebrations will be prohibited in the state," Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said.

Many cities and states, including Delhi and Mumbai, have banned Holi celebrations on March 28 and 29, citing concerns about an increase in Covid-19 cases due to large social gatherings.

Meanwhile, in the wake of upcoming festivals and possible social gatherings, the Union Health Ministry has urged states to consider imposing local restrictions to prevent the virus from spreading.

"May consider imposing local restrictions in public celebrations of Holi, Shab-e-Barat, Bihu, Easter, and Eid-ul-Fitr and limit mass meetings," Union Health Additional Secretary wrote to Chief Secretaries of states and UTs in a letter.
