Schools to be shut from March 22 in Tamil Nadu


Due to a recent spike in Covid-19 cases in Tamil Nadu, the state government on Saturday ordered the closure of schools for classes 9, 10, and 11 from March 22 until further notice. But classes for 12 standard will continue to fuction as they have to take the board examinations.


The government announced the closure, citing the director of public health and preventive medicine's recommendation that it would not be advisable to continue classes for 9, 10 and 11 from the health concern as there has been a rise in COVID-19 cases.


The director stated that students in the 12th grade will be allowed to attend school because their numbers are smaller, and they must sit for the board exam while strictly adhering to protective measures such as wearing masks and maintaining social distance.


In the order, state Chief Secretary Rajeev Ranjan said, "The government of Tamil Nadu hereby orders that schools be closed for classes 9th, 10th, and 11th with effect from March 22 until further orders."
