Heavy Rain Lash Mumbai and Suburbs, Flooding in Other Areas

As heavy rains hit Mumbai and its environs last night and this morning, parts of the city saw floodwaters and congestion causing disruption to residents.
Photos posted on Twitter by the news agency ANI show the streets of Zion flooded. People were seen crossing knee-deep water in Ander. Rail officials said subway trains were running normally as a system. However, buses in some lanes have been diverted due to flooding in some areas, officials said.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted "moderate to heavy rain" in Mumbai and its suburbs and "heavy to heavy rain" in isolated areas over the next few days.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed in Mumbai following a stern warning issued by the Department of Meteorology, officials said.

Newly-appointed Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde has instructed authorities in Mumbai and neighboring provinces to be vigilant.
