Trackeray's name "the same" Party: of Sena's Sanjay Raut

Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday questioned the legitimacy of the party led by Maharashtra Prime Minister Eknath Shinde, saying the party could not claim to be the original Sena.
In an interview to former prime minister Uddhav Thackeray ahead of a state-run election led by Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Speaker Rahul Narvekar reinstated Mr Shinde as leader of the Shiv Sena Legislative Assembly, removing Ajay Chaudhary.

Mr Narvekar also saw the appointment of Bharat Gogawale from Shinde camp as Sena chief whip, removing Sunil Prabhu, part of the Thackeray faction.

Speaking to reporters in Delhi, Mr Raut said the MPs (in the Shinde party) should ask themselves some questions. They used the party logo and all the benefits associated with it to win the election, and then broke the same party.

"We will definitely challenge you in court. The Shinde faction has left Shiv Sena, so how can they say that their party is the first party, not the one led by Uddhav Thackeray. Trackeray's name is similar to Shiv Sena," said a Rajya Sabha member.

Mr Raut said Deputy President M Venkaiah Naidu had suspended JD (U) leader Sharad Yadav for violating the party's order not to participate in the event. "The event was not even in Parliament, but it is still facing this action," said spokesman Shiv Sena.

"However, such a law does not apply to us if we expect the same steps to be taken by 16 of the 39 MPs (of the Shinde party). Is it fair?" he asked.

He said if a decision was made by the consent of an individual or party, it was not a democracy in parliament.
