ULFA-I Cadre 1 Shot Dead By Security Forces After Tense Encounter In Assinsia

At a tense conference between the United Liberation Front of Asom - Independent (ULFA-I) and security forces, one ULFA-I force was killed in the Assam region of Tinsukia on Friday.

The killed terrorist has been identified as Gyan Asom.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Inspector General of Police Jitmol Doley said, "One ULFA (I) shotgun was shot dead. We suspect that at least two thirds of the members of the group were injured in the blaze. "All valleys near the escape routes are fenced off so that militants do not escape".

According to sources, security forces received information about the presence of six ULFA-I groups led by one Rupon Asom asylum seeker at Dapather Majgaon under the Kakopathar police station.

Tinsukia Superintendent of Police Debojit Deuri said, "There was a group of six soldiers trapped in the house. During a police operation with the combined forces, one militant died."

"After receiving a report, a 14-member joint team from the Assam Regiment and the police launched an operation. A security guard fired shots shortly after arriving at their hideout. it said.

"In retaliation, two officers were shot dead while trying to flee towards the back of the house," he added.

Later, the body of a man was found.

"A bag containing Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosives was found in the house where they were hiding. The mob entered the house early on Friday morning and took refuge with a firearm," the source said.

Meanwhile, security forces have launched a crackdown on terrorists who have managed to escape.

ULFA (I) has been fighting since May 2021 when the incumbent government under Himanta Biswa Sarma took over.
