Maharashtra: Election Commission issues new names to Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions

Mumbai: The Election Commission has issued new names to the Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde factions after freezing the Shiv Sena's election symbol bow and arrow.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led faction has been given the name Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray and the flaming torch (mashaal) as the symbol. At the same time, Shinde faction has got the name of Balasahebchi Shiv Sena. But it has not been allotted a symbol yet.

The Shinde faction’s choice for an election symbol was a Gada (mace). It was rejected because it was a religious symbol. The Eknath Shinde camp has been asked to submit more options for allotment of party symbol.

Andheri East assembly by-election on November 3: Andheri East seat of Maharashtra fell vacant after the death of Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke, hence by-elections are being held on this seat. The elections will be held on November 3. October 14 is the last date for nominations. Nominations can be withdrawn till October 17. The results will come on 6th November.
