Telangana: Police Claim They Foiled Bid To Poach TRS MLAs, BJP Dismisses Allegation

Cyberabad (Telangana): The Telangana police on Wednesday said they had thwarted a bid to poach four MLAs of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and detained three persons. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Stephen Raveendra said the conspiracy was exposed after the MLAs themselves gave information to the police that some persons had been trying to convince them to quit the party and switch loyalties. The BJP, however, dismissed the allegation

Subsequently police raided a farm house in Ranga Reddy district and detained three persons identified as Rama Chandra Bharathi alias Satish Sharma, who is associated with a temple in Faridabad and lives in Delhi, Nanda Kumar of Hyderabad, and Simha from Tirupati.

Police said the accused were trying to tempt the legislators—Achampet MLA Guvvala Balaraj, Tandur MLA Rohit Reddy, Kollapur MLA Harshavardhan Reddy and Pinapaka MLA Rega Kantha Rao—by offering them a huge amount of money, posts and other incentives to leave TRS. All the four MLAs were present at the farm house when the raid was conducted.

Police Commissioner Stephen Raveendra said the deals could be to the tune of Rs 100 crore or more

War of words between TRS and BJP: The incident has led to a war of words between the TRS and the BJP. TRS has accused the BJP of trying to poach its MLAs ahead of the Munugode bypoll.

TRS MLC Palla Rajeshwar said those connected to the BJP tried to poach our MLAs. This is an attempt at horse-trading, he said.

The BJP, however, rubbished the allegation and said this was a diversion created by the TRS to win the Munugode seat.
