Uttarakhand: Helicopter Crash in Garud Chatti At Kedarnath Kills Seven

 


Dehradun: Helicopter carrying pilgrims crashes from Guptkashi to Kedarnath crashed in Kedarnath on Tuesday. Seven people including 2 pilots have died in the accident. The reason for the accident is said to be bad weather and fog. 

The helicopter hit the ground due to dense fog. After the accident, the helicopter caught fire. The chopper burst into flames close to Garud Chatti and Jungle Chatti, Rudraprayag District Disaster Management Officer Nandan Singh said.

The helicopter belongs to the Bell Company of Aryan Aviation. The helicopter took off from Kedarnath Base Camp at 11.25 am for Narayan Koti-Guptkashi. It crashed near Garud Chatti 15 minutes after take off. 

Some photos and videos have also surfaced. In this the wreckage of the helicopter, the fire and the local people are visible. 

President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have expressed grief over the accident.

PROBE ORDERED: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed grief and ordered an inquiry into the crash.

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said his ministry is constantly monitoring the situation.

"The helicopter crash in Kedarnath is extremely unfortunate. We are in touch with the state government to ascertain the magnitude of the loss, and are constantly monitoring the situation," he said in a tweet.
