Madhya Pradesh: Congress MLA Umang Singhar Lands In Soup After Rape Case Registered; BJP-Cong Trade Barbs


Dhar/Bhopal: A woman claiming to be his wife has filed an FIR against Umang Singhar, Congress MLA from Gandhwani in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh, under rape and other criminal sections at Naugaon police station in Dhar district.

An FIR was registered late Sunday evening on the complaint of a 38-year-old victim woman at Naugaon police station. 

According to the FIR, Singhar physically and mentally abused the woman on the pretext of marriage. When the woman pressed for marriage, both of them got married in April this year in Bhopal. 

The woman alleged that Singhar physically and mentally abused her from November 2021 to November 2022 in Dhar district as well as in Bhopal and the National Capital Region near Delhi. 

During this, she was also assaulted and unnatural act was done. The woman is originally a resident of Jabalpur and she is also said to be allegedly associated with the Congress.

Rape case registered: Narottam Mishra

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said through a video message that a case has been registered against senior Congress MLA Umang Singhar on the complaint of his wife for rape and several other sections. 

Mishra said that a report of rape has been lodged against Congress Secretary and MLA in charge of Gujarat elections, Umang Singhar, at Naugaon police station in Dhar district. His wife has alleged rape and mental harassment on the pretext of marriage. Police have registered the report.

Woman demanded money: Singhar

On the other hand, Umang Singhar, a Congress MLA and minister in the Kamal Nath government, issued a statement alleging that the woman demanded money from him and was threatening to ruin his political future. In this connection, he has also given a written complaint to the police on November 2. He said that the complaint has been lodged against him due to politics. Efforts are being made to tarnish his reputation.

BJP leaders are scared: PC Sharma

On the other hand, senior leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra in-charge of Madhya Pradesh and former Congress minister PC Sharma said in a statement here that the BJP and its leaders are scared even before entry of Gandhi's Yatra in Madhya Pradesh. That's why they are taking such action. 

He said that BJP leaders are doing 'pressure politics' to try to poach Congress MLAs. But our MLAs are not going to give in to pressure. He demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.

On the other hand, the police officials say that after registering the FIR, the matter is being investigated and legal action will be taken on the basis of the facts coming in it.
