3 LeT Terrorits Gunned Down In Encounter In Kashmir's Shopian, Two Of Them Were Involved In Killing Of Kashmiri Pandit


Shopian: Three Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorists were gunned down in an encounter with security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir early on Tuesday morning. Two of those killed were involved in the killing of a Kashmiri Pandit ad another in the killing of a Nepali citizen.

A police official said security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Munjh Marg in Zainapora area of Shopian after receiving information about the presence of terrorists there. 

The search operation later turned into an encounter, he said. A police spokesman said three LeT terrorists were killed in the ensuing exchange of fire between the ultras and security forces. 

Among 3 neutralised local terrorists, 2 identified as Lateef Lone of Shopian, involved in killing of a Kashmiri Pandit Purana Krishna Bhat & Umer Nazir of Anantnag, involved in killing of Till Bahadur Thapa of Nepal. 1 AK 47 rifle & 2 pistols recovered: ADGP Kashmir," the police tweet quoted a senior officer as saying.

Kashmir has been witnessing a series of targeted killings since last year with many of the victims being migrant workers or Kashmir Pandits. In the latest such incident, two civilians died in terrorist firing last week, according to the Army.
