Bharat Jodo Yatra: Will Rahul Gandhi Have To Suspend Yatra Over Covid Concerns

New Delhi: The central government has increased its vigil amid the rising cases of coronavirus across the world. The Center has asked all states to monitor new cases and increase genome sequencing.

Amid rising Covid cases in China and other countries, clouds of uncertainty have started looming over Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra.

A letter has come to the fore from Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, which he has written to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot. In this, an appeal has been made to both the leaders to follow the Covid protocol in the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

Along with this, it has also been said that if this is not possible, then a decision should be taken to postpone the yatra in the interest of the country.

The Union Health Minister said in the letter that since the coronavirus pandemic is a public emergency, a decision may be taken to postpone the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

The letter comes amid fresh health concerns triggered by the new wave of Covid in China. A similar upward trend in Covid cases has been noticed in Japan, South Korea, Brazil and the US which prompted the Centre to urge all states and UTs to gear up the whole genome sequencing of the positive cases.
