Cyclone Mandous Makes Landfall Near Mahabalipuram, Weakens Into A Deep Depression


Chennai: Cyclone Mandous crossed the Tamil Nadu coast near Mahabalipuram as a Cyclonic storm. The system packed winds up to 70-80 kmph during the time of landfall. 

According to Skymet Weather, the system did move northwestward at 8 kmph in the past few hours and has now weakened into a deep depression. 

The system is likely to see rapid weakening now, and may become a depression by the afternoon hours. Strong winds will continue over the coast for the next few hours. 

The system will spread out now covering parts of Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, South Interior Karnataka and interior parts of Tamil Nadu.

According to a status report of the Andhra Pradesh government, Naidupeta in Tirupati district received the highest rainfall at 281.5 mm during the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday.

In view of this moderate to heavy rains will be seen over many parts of South Interior Karnataka, parts of Rayalaseema, Andhra Pradesh as well as interior regions of Tamil Nadu as we progress towards the day. 

Rains over coastal parts of Tamil Nadu may reduce in intensity after a few hours as the system will move further inland.
