Weather News: Cold Wave Intensifies In North India, Brace For Coldest Days Of Season From Dec 28 To Jan 4


New Delhi: Mercury continues to dip in most parts of the country. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a fog alert for West Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Dense fog is expected in these areas for the next five days. There is also a possibility of cancellation and delay of flights and trains.

According to the Meteorological Department, many parts of these states may have the coldest days of the season from December 31 to January 4. The mercury can reach minus here.

Foggy weather reduces sunshine: The cold wave spell continued in the national capital and other parts of north India. Dense fog was spotted as the cold wave continued in Delhi. Meteorologists attributed the sharp drop in day temperatures to frigid northwesterly winds and reduced sunshine due to foggy weather.

Dense fog at these places: According to Skymet Weather, dense fog occurred at many places over Punjab, in some parts of Haryana and at one or two places over Northwest Rajasthan.

Dense fog occurred over parts of Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh and Odisha.

Cold day at these places: Cold day to severe cold day conditions were reported at many places over Punjab, Haryana and Delhi and cold day conditions occurred over parts of Jammu division, northwest Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

Heavy rain and hailstorm in four districts of Assam: Heavy rain and hailstorm have occurred in four districts of Assam namely Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo and Sivasagar. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, a population of about 18,000 in 132 villages in these four districts has been affected. 4481 houses were partially damaged and 2 houses completely collapsed.

At the same time, the night temperature in Delhi, Rajasthan and Western UP will be between 1 to 4 degrees. On the other hand, it will be very cold in Madhya Pradesh on 28 and 29 December, but after that the weather is likely to be normal.

Light snowfall may occur: Light snowfall may occur over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh.
