Srinagar: There was no respite from the cold as the Kashmir Valley witnessed continuous snowfall and the minimum temperature remained below zero with Pahalgam being the coldest place on Monday at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has predicted dry weather to continue in Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.1 degrees Celsius as against the previous night's minus 3.2 degrees Celsius. It is 1.6°C below normal during this period of the season.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir saw a further drop in the minimum temperature, which settled at minus 4.8 degrees Celsius.
Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.
Cold wave conditions may occur at some places
According to IMD, the temperatures across most places in plains in North India will experience dip in temperatures following snowfall in Kashmir.
Private weather forecaster Skymet Weather said cold wave conditions may occur at one or two places over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, western part of Haryana and North Rajasthan.
During the next 24 hours, light to moderate rain with one or two heavy spells may occur over southern parts of Andaman and Nicobar.
Light rain is possible over coastal Tamil Nadu and South coast of Andhra Pradesh.
