Another Hooch Tragedy In Siwan Bihar: Three Die, Dozen Ill After Consuming Illicit Liquor

Siwan: Once again hooch tragedy has been reported in Bihar. The incident occurred in Bala village of Bihar’s Siwan district. Here at least 15 people fell ill under suspicious circumstances, out of which 3 people have died. Twelve others are hospitalised and six of them are in critical condition.

Relatives allege that everyone's health deteriorated after consuming spurious liquor. The cause of death will be revealed only after the investigation. One person died while being brought to Siwan Sadar Hospital and two others died while being taken to Patna.

Autopsy will revel cause of death: DM

Siwan DM Amit Kumar Pandey told that the post-mortem of the three dead people is being done, so that the cause of death can be known, and also said that after going to the village, an appeal has been made to the people that those who are unwell, should get treated. 

Pandey said that six people are critically ill who are receiving treatment in Sadar Hospital in Siwan. We are investigating the matter, he said.

Complained of stomach pain and poor vision in middle of night

As per the information, out of three two deceased have been identified as Janak Prasad and Naresh Bean of the Bala village in Siwan's Nabiganj. In the middle of the night, they complained of stomach pain and poor vision, following which their relatives took them to the Siwan Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared them 'brought dead'.

Taking action in the matter, the district administration has also arrested 10 people.

BJP slams Bihar govt

BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed the alliance government over the death due to the consumption of illicit liquor in Siwan.  

"It is not Nitish Raj but Nasha Raj of JDU and RJD. Recently we have seen how more than 80 people have died but instead of taking strong action against the liquor mafia, Bihar CM blamed the victim as he said Piyoge to Maroge. The liquor mafia are so emboldened and brazened that they drown and kill police, men who went to carry out a raid," he said.

70 had died in Chhapra last month

Last month in December 2022, as many as 70 people died after consuming illicit liquor in Bihar’s Chhapra district.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested a liquor smuggler in connection with the case and also recovered Rs 2.17 lakh in cash.

The hooch tragedy in Chhapra grabbed the national limelight. After the incident, the Saran police have launched an operation to identify and arrest people suspected to be involved in the illicit liquor trade, transportation, smuggling and brewing.
