Srinagar: Bharat Jodo Yatra has reached its last leg. On Sunday afternoon, Rahul Gandhi hoisted the tricolor at Lal Chowk to signal the conclusion of the foot-march that got underway on September 7. During this Srinagar echoed with Vijayi Vishwa Tiranga Pyara. Security has been tightened at the venue. The march started from Pantha Chowk in the morning and will end near Nehru Park on Boulevard Road in Srinagar city.
There is information about the involvement of Jairam Ramesh, Mallikarjun Kharge, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti with Rahul Gandhi. Muzaffar Shah, President of Awami National Conference has also participated in the yatra. Today, there will be a halt of the yatra at Cheshma Shahi Road in Srinagar and Rahul will hold a press conference at 5:30 pm.
The J&K portion of the Bharat Jodo Yatra continued to be particularly crucial because it ran into difficulties with the party alleging a security breach at Banihal. Gandhi was joined at Awantipora and Banihal by notable figures like PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference Chief Omar Abdullah.
After hoisting the tricolor, Rahul's Bharat Jodo Yatra also came to an end. It was supposed to end on January 30, but sources told that the yatra was called off after the Lal Chowk programme. The program to be held on Monday at the Congress office has also been cancelled.
Mehbooba Mufti joined yatra
At Pulwama, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, her daughter Iltija Mufti and a large number of party workers joined Rahul in the yatra. Apart from this, Priyanka Gandhi also participated in Pulwama itself.
Breath of fresh air in Kashmir
Mehbooba Mufti said that Bharat Jodo Yatra is like a breath of fresh air in Kashmir, as such a large number of people got a chance to step out of their homes for the first time after 2019. The central government had abrogated Article 370 on August 5, 2019 and after that such a large number of people were not allowed to come out.
It was a great experience walking with Rahul. Mehbooba Mufti said this through a tweet. Tight security arrangements were made in advance for the Bharat Jodo Yatra. All roads leading to the starting point of the yatra were sealed by the security forces.
Yatra welcomed by enthusiastic supporters
Only authorized vehicles and journalists were allowed to reach the yatra site. There was a three-tier security cordon around Rahul Gandhi. The Yatra was welcomed by enthusiastic supporters in South Kashmir's Chursu area. A large number of Congress workers and supporters took part in the yatra carrying the tricolor and party flags. Rahul Gandhi started the walk in a white T-shirt and sleeveless jacket.
