Bharat Jodo Yatra Suspended after Santokh Chaudhary’s Demise; Rahul Gandhi Reaches Santokh’s House To Express Condolences

 

Phagwara (Punjab): Jalandhar MP Santokh Chaudhary passed away on Saturday. He had joined Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra. Meanwhile, he had a heart attack near Bhatia village near Phagwara. Chaudhary was taken to the hospital where he passed away. After the death of Chaudhary, the Bharat Jodo Yatra was stopped. Chaudhary was 76.

Chaudhary became MP for the second time. He was a Member of Parliament from Jalandhar (Lok Sabha constituency). He won the 2014 LS election and 2019 LS election being an Indian National Congress candidate.

Santokh Chaudhary was a prominent Dalit leader of Doaba. He was the son of Master Gurbanta Singh, the first education minister of Punjab. His son Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary is the MLA of Phillaur.

Chaudhary was elected to the 16th Lok Sabha in 2014 after defeating Pawan Kumar Tinu of Akali Dal. From 2004 to 2010, he was the Vice President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee.

Rahul Gandhi reached Chaudhary's house

Rahul Gandhi reached Santokh Chaudhary's house at Football Chowk in Jalandhar and met his family members. He was accompanied by MP Manish Tiwari.

Rahul said- I am shocked by his sudden demise. He was a down to earth hard working leader, a pious person and a strong pillar of the Congress family.

Rahul was to hold a press conference in Jalandhar on Sunday. That too has been postponed. Now this conference will be held in Hoshiarpur on 17th January.

Yatra to resume on Sunday

The leaders of Punjab have expressed grief over the demise of Santokh Chaudhary. The funeral will be held on Sunday, then the yatra will resume.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring announced that the yatra would begin after 11 am on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi said that the yatra would begin after the last rites of Santokh Chaudhary.

Former Punjab CM and BJP leader Captain Amarinder Singh condoled the demise of Santokh Chaudhary. The Captain said that he was extremely saddened to hear about the sudden demise of Choudhary. My thoughts are with his entire family in this hour of grief. May Waheguru ji grant eternal peace to the departed soul.

AAP leader Anmol Gagan Maan condoled the death of Chaudhary and said that he is saddened by the sudden demise of Chaudhary. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

PM condoles death

PM Narendra Modi also expressed grief over the death of Santokh Singh. Said- He will be remembered for his efforts to serve the people of Punjab. I express my condolences to his family and supporters.
