Madhya Pradesh: Replica of POK's Sharda Peeth To Come Up In Omkareshwar

 

Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government is building a temple in Omkareshwar, which will be a replica of the Sharda Peeth of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). The culture department has prepared the design on the basis of old pictures of Sharda Peeth temple. A Gurukul will also be built here, in which children will also be given education.

Temple was destroyed in 1994

Ten kilometers away from the Line of Control is the Sharda Peeth in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, which is considered one of the 18 Shaktipeeths. According to Hindu Mythology, the right hand of Goddess Sati fell here. This temple was destroyed in 1994. Madhya Pradesh government is preparing its replica on the basis of old pictures of the temple.

Major centre of faith

Sharda Peeth temple was a major center of faith and reverence of Kashmiri Pandits. It is also associated with the culture and heritage of Kashmir. Adi Shankaracharya did tapasya here. He also participated in a discussion in a religious session at the temple. Because of this this place is very important.

Center for Advaita Vedanta in Omkareshwar

The Madhya Pradesh government is setting up a center for Advaita Vedanta and a huge statue of Shankaracharya at Omkareshwar. It is being constructed on 85 acres. 

Sharda Peeth temple is being built from wood in this premises. Only wood will be used to give the original look of the temple. Modern technology will also be used to strengthen it.

This temple is now nowhere

Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Principal Secretary, Culture Department of Madhya Pradesh said that Sharda Peeth is being constructed in Omkareshwar keeping in mind the Indian culture, archeology and architecture. Now this temple is nowhere. Therefore old pictures have been collected and the design of the temple has been prepared. Children will be taught Advaita Vedanta in the Gurukul to be built in it.
