Bhubaneswar: India defeated Wales 4-2 in their last pool match of the Hockey World Cup. Akashdeep Singh scored two goals for India on Thursday at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar. While Shamsher Singh and Harmanpreet Singh scored one goal each.
Despite this victory, the Indian team could not directly reach the quarter-finals. Now India will have to play a crossover match. In case of victory, the team will go to the quarterfinals.
Cross over match with New Zealand on January 22
The Indian team finished second behind England in Pool-D. India's crossover match will be against New Zealand, who finished third in Pool C, on January 22. In case of a win in that match, India will take on the Pool B table topper in the quarter-finals. With this, the England team has reached the direct quarter-finals.
