Bengaluru: The issue of Hindutva doesn’t seem to be helping BJP in Karnataka. In the survey of the BJP central leadership, the party is not getting majority in Karnataka. In the survey, out of total 224 assembly seats in the state, the party is getting only 60-70 seats.
A similar survey was also conducted by CM Basavaraj Somappa Bommai, in which the party claimed to get 110 seats. However, 113 seats are needed for a majority.
According to BJP sources, Home Minister Amit Shah had come to Bengaluru earlier. He had a meeting with Basavaraj Bommai.
Shah asked Bommai that when the party's survey shows 60 to 70 seats, on what basis you are claiming to win 110 seats. After this, BJP has made a big change in the election strategy for the next three months.
No response of polarizing issues on the ground
BJP tried to polarize the Hindu and Muslim votes with the issues of Hijab-Halal and Azaan. Till three months back these issues were prevailing in Karnataka. But during the last one year, BJP did not see any response on the ground. After that the party has retreated from Hindutva politics.
BJP has now decided to go for caste politics
BJP has now decided to go for caste politics. Under this, an ordinance to increase reservation for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the state was presented in the Assembly.
Through this ordinance, SC's reservation has been increased from 15 to 17% and ST's from 3 to 7%. This decision has been taken according to the recommendations of the commission headed by retired High Court Justice HN Nagmohan Das.
Reservation will increase to 56% in Karnataka
This will take the reservation in Karnataka to 56%. That's why the opposition parties are asking the government how they will implement it.
Similarly, the government also increased the reservation for Lingayat Panchamasalis and Vokkaligas community. However, the High Court has now asked the government to maintain status quo on reservation for backward classes.
In a major development, the Karnataka cabinet took a decision in December last year to create two new categories for the reservation of two major communities of the state, Lingayat Panchamasalis and Vokkaligas.
While the government decided to include the Lingayat Panchamasalis in the 2-D reservation matrix, it took a decision to include the Vokkaliga community in the 2-C reservation matrix.
Lingayats have largest population in state after SC-ST
The Panchamasali community had been demanding its inclusion in the 2-A category but the government included it in 2-D based on the interim report submitted by the Backward Classes Commission headed by Jayaprakash Hegde. Lingayats have the largest population in the state after SC-ST.
Valmiki community also demanding hike in quota
Apart from Panchmasali, the Valmiki community is also demanding an increase in reservation for Scheduled Tribes from three to 7.5%. Similarly, BJP is also focusing on small communities. For example, Prime Minister Modi himself met the Banjara community.
In 2021, the party removed Yediyurappa from the post of Chief Minister. In his place, Bommai of his own choice was made the Chief Minister. After being removed from the post of CM, Yeddyurappa was sidelined and was not even invited in big programs. But its negative impact was seen on the ground.
