Bhubaneshwar: Odisha health minister Naba Kishore Das has succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in a private hospital in capital Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
He was shot at his chest during a program in Brajarajnagar in Jharsuguda district around noon on Sunday. He was rushed to the hospital in Jharsuguda and subsequently airlifted to the Apollo hospital. According to reports, the accused, a police ASI on duty, was nabbed soon after he allegedly shot at the minister at point blank range when he was getting down from his vehicle to attend a program.
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered a crime branch probe into the incident.
Expressing condolence over the minister’s death, Patnaik said, “He was an asset for both the Govt and the party. His death is a great loss to the State of Odisha.”
The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has expressed deep grief over the demise of Minister in Odisha Government, Naba Kishore Das.
The Prime Minister tweeted: “Saddened by the unfortunate demise of Minister in Odisha Government, Shri Naba Kishore Das Ji. Condolences to his family in this tragic hour. Om Shanti.”
