Pravasi Bhartiya Divas: Food market of Indore decked up for NRIs; savoury dishes prepared to welcome them


Indore: Overseas Indians from different countries are gathering in the three-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas convention being held in Indore from January 8 till January 10. All the guests are also enjoying the tradition of Malwa Indore cuisine. There is an joyful atmosphere at Indore's famous Sarafa and Chhappan Dukaan regarding the arrival of NRIs. 

The people of Indore have decorated their shops and put up hoardings to welcome them. A day earlier on 7th January, many NRIs reached here and enjoyed Indore's Dahi-Bade, Kachori, Tikki, Indori Dosa, Shikanji and Jalebi. Steaming hot Garadu is also being relished by the people in the cold weather.

The 56 Dukaans famous for food have been decorated like a bride. The traders here have been welcoming the NRIs wholeheartedly. Rakesh Hasija, who has been running Falooda, Matka-Kulfi and Cold-Coffee shop for the past 45 years, says that our ice-cream, Faluda and Matka Kulfi are very famous and their unique flavour will enhance the taste of overseas Indians. 

Similarly, Indori namkeen seller Shri Rakesh Agarwal has also prepared a namkeen using less chilli and spices to welcome the NRIs. The Indori Dosa made here is the centre of attraction. Not only this, the Chaat House has Tikia, Pav Bhaji, Sigdi Dosa and similar savoury dishes, steaming hot Jalebi, Rabri, Gulab Jamun, Mawa Bati, Gajar Ka Halwa and Moong Ka Halwa specially prepared for the NRIs.

Operators of shops like delicious samosas and kachori shops, Vijay Chaat House, Shikanji shop and Joshi's Dahi Bade etc. in Sarafa are very excited and the Rajwada is decorated like a bride to welcome the guests eagerly. The welcome gates and lights in the city are telling that the Indian diaspora is in our hearts.
